What makes Thao Dien different

Thao Dien isn’t like the rest of Saigon: garden villas, riverside compounds, the city’s largest expat community — and lanes that a large truck will never fit through. We serve this area so often that we treat it as a "little city" with its own playbook.

Parties in Thao Dien revolve around space: gardens, pools, rooftops looking out over the river. Guests are usually a mix of Vietnamese and international, so a bilingual party is the default rather than a special request. All three service packages are available here — from Essential (from 4.5M) for an intimate gathering to Bespoke (from 28M) for a large-scale villa party.

  • Large villas — a combined outdoor + indoor setup
  • Pool parties — poolside bartenders, safe polycarbonate glassware around the pool
  • Condos & penthouses — a compact, smoke-free, odour-free setup

Common party types

Thao Dien-style parties

The four formats we serve most in this area — each with its own setup and service rhythm.

Garden party at a Thao Dien villa

Villa garden party

Garden parties, birthdays and anniversaries in a villa courtyard — the bar set among the greenery, guests free to move between zones. A combined indoor + outdoor setup keeps the party running smoothly when the weather changes.

Pool party in Thao Dien

Pool party

Bartenders set up poolside with safe polycarbonate glassware around the pool, with a menu leaning toward cool, ice-heavy, easy-drinking cocktails for outdoors. Perfect for a Thao Dien-style weekend afternoon party.

Riverside sunset party

Riverside sunset

Thao Dien’s standout advantage: a west-facing riverfront. We usually advise hosts to set the guest arrival time before sunset — with the bar ready beforehand so welcome drinks land in time for the most beautiful moment.

Bilingual party for the expat community

Bilingual expat party

Thao Dien is home to Saigon’s largest expat community. Our bartenders communicate well in English — introducing the menu, advising to each guest’s taste, and keeping a natural atmosphere at the bar for both Vietnamese and international guests.

Timing the sunset

A west-facing riverfront is the prized asset of Thao Dien’s riverside villas — and also the easiest thing to waste if the timing is wrong. Our experience: set the guest arrival time before sunset, so welcome drinks are served exactly when the light is at its best, rather than once it’s already dark.

On our side, that means the bar has to be fully ready before guests arrive: setup done, the menu dry-run complete, with ice and garnishes prepared in enough quantity for the first wave of guests — the busiest moment of any sunset party. In the rainy season we monitor the weather through the day and agree in advance with the host on the point at which we decide to switch to the indoor plan if needed.

A partner venue right in the area

The Apothecary

Don’t want to host at home? Right in a Thao Dien lane, The Apothecary — a partner venue in our network — is a speakeasy hidden behind the door of an "apothecary", with candlelight, dark wood and a private 1920s atmosphere for cocktail connoisseurs.

Every glass here is a story: clarification, fat-washing, hand-crafted infusions and a seasonally rotating menu. It’s also where our network’s young bartenders learn the craft from the most experienced masters — on the same training path as our Academy. Perfect for a private dinner, a small-group birthday party or a meeting that needs a discreet space.

Logistics

Narrow lanes, heavy rain — we have a playbook

Narrow lanes & small trucks

Many of Thao Dien’s most beautiful villas sit in lanes that only fit one vehicle. We use a small truck suited to the area’s lanes, with a modular mobile bar designed to disassemble — wherever the truck can’t go, we carry it by hand. When we take a booking, we ask about the access route up front so there are no surprises on the day.

Compounds & building management

The compounds and condos in Thao Dien manage access strictly: guest registration, service-vehicle registration, delivery hours. The host only needs to notify building management once — we handle the vehicle registration, freight elevator and the commitment to clean up after the party, directly ourselves.

Rainy season & outdoor cover

A garden party in the rainy season needs a clear cover plan from the start: survey the villa’s covered area, place the bar where it’s easy to move, and agree in advance with the host on when to make the call to move indoors. Saigon rain comes fast but usually passes fast — what matters is that the bar never has to stop serving.

Frequently asked questions

Booking in Thao Dien

Do you have English-speaking bartenders for expat parties?

Yes. Thao Dien is the area where we take on the most bilingual parties, so we always prioritise assigning bartenders who communicate well in English — from introducing the menu and recommending cocktails to a guest’s taste, to small talk at the bar. If your party is mostly international guests, note it in the quote form so we assign the right people.

What if the villa is down a narrow lane a truck can’t enter?

This is a familiar situation in Thao Dien — many of the area’s most beautiful villas sit in lanes that only fit one vehicle. We use a small truck suited to the area’s lanes, and a modular mobile bar that disassembles so it can be carried by hand through the narrow stretch when needed. When we take a booking, we always ask about the access route up front so we can prepare the right approach and avoid surprises on the day.

Is a pool / garden party in the rainy season okay?

It’s fine with the right preparation. Saigon’s rainy season often brings evening showers — right at garden-party time. Our process: survey the villa’s covered spaces in advance for a backup plan, position the bar where it’s easy to move, and the team shifts the entire setup indoors in a short time if rain arrives. The outdoor cover arrangements are agreed with the host at the quoting stage.

Is a poolside setup safe?

Yes. For pool parties we prefer polycarbonate glassware instead of glass around the pool area — if it breaks it doesn’t create sharp shards, the bar is placed a safe distance from the water’s edge, and any power cables (if used) are run neatly and secured so they don’t obstruct guests’ paths.
